Arrival at the airport of Balmaceda and pick-up the vehicle at the counter. Suggested itinerary: you follow the Sothern Highway to the village of Puerto Tranquilo. On the way we stop at Cerro Castillo to see some interesting cave paintings (National Monument Manos de Cerro Castillo). It is America’s oldest artistic manifestation, made by tehuelche tribes. This tradition continued until the XVII century. Puerto Tranquilo is on the shore of Lake General Carrera, the 2nd biggest lake in South America.
Car rental. Suggested itinerary: in the morning you can do a boat excursion to “Capilla de Marmol” (marble chapel), natural caves carved by the lake. Afterwards you can discover the amazing Exploradores Valley, with numerous hanging glaciers and pass by Mt. Caballo, the Nutria waterfall and other impressive natural attractions. At Lake Bayo, enclosed by the Andes Mountain Range, you can hike cross the wood, ascent the moraine, and enjoy a superb view of Glacier Exploradores and Mt. San Valentin. Return to Puerto Tranquilo.
Car rental. Suggested itinerary: Today the Southern Highway will lead you to the village of Cochrane. On the way you can visit Tamango National Reserve, where you can watch huemules (yellowish-brown deers of South America), an endangered specie. Possibility to hike in the Reserve to observe these beautiful animals. Arrival at Cochrane.
Car rental. Suggested itinerary: We continue to the village of Tortel. It is a unique place in Chile: located by the sea on the mouth of the River Baker, the village is cuddled between the ocean and the hills. In the village we will not find any means of transportation on wheels: no cars, no carts, no bikes, no skates: only 7,5 kms of wooden walkways connecting the stilt houses.
Car rental. Suggested itinerary: We dedicate the day to continuing exploring the surroundings of Caleta tortel. Possibility of doing some horseback riding or a navigation to the glaciers.
Car rental. Suggested itinerary: we start our way back along the Austral road until the village of Chile Chico located in the south-east shores of the General Carrera Lake. On the way we can explore the National Park Jemimen.
Car rental. Suggested itinerary: We take the Ferry from Chile Chico up to Puerto Ibañez across the General Carrera Lake (2 hours and a half approximately of navigation). Then we continue towards the city of Coyhaique. The name comes from the tehuelche (native language) expression: koi, “lagoon” and áiken “, campsite.
Car rental. Suggested itinerary: we continue north direction towards the surroundings of the village of Puyuhuapi. On the way you can visit the Queulat National Park where you can do a hike to the Ventisquero Colgante (hanging glacier, approximately 2 hours) and observe this ice giant. Arrival at Dorotea bay where you leave the vehicle at the pier to cross by boat up to PUYUHUAPI LODGE & SPA, surrounded with an exuberant vegetation.
